Fans of Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza have some time to wait before the Irvine-based chain returns the popular item to its menu on Sept. 15.

Taco Bell made the announcement on Twitter Tuesday morning, ending weeks of speculation.

The beans have been spilled. See you and the #MexicanPizza 9/15.

— Taco Bell (@tacobell) August 2, 2022

Mexican Pizza was a fixture on Taco Bell’s menu for decades until the chain pulled it in November 2020 amid disruptions caused by the novel coronavirus crisis.

Its absence riled up fans. They included high-profile performers like Doja Cat, who got involved in a highly publicized relaunch of Mexican Pizza earlier this year.

Mexican Pizza returned to the menu as a permanent item on May 19, but it was so popular that the chain ran through its supplies and pulled it in less than two weeks.

Mexican Pizza is like a tostada with ground beef and refried beans between two crispy tortillas, topped with cheese and tomato.
