GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TOP 10

(Records based on reports made by teams through Oct. 12)

1. Mater Dei (24-7): The Monarchs won the Trinity League championship with a 7-1 league record. They are a likely selection to the elite group of teams in Division 1 for the CIF Southern Section playoffs that begin next week.

2. Newport Harbor (23-6): The Sailors took the Surf League title with a 3-0 victory over Huntington Beach on Tuesday and finished 5-1 in league. They are a candidate for Division 1 in the playoffs.

3. Huntington Beach (26-4): The Oilers went 4-2 in the Surf League and had wins over Los Alamitos, Edison and JSerra.

4. Aliso Niguel (19-6): The Wolverines wound up sharing the South Coast League title with San Juan Hills after losing to the Stallions in a five-set match Wednesday night.

5. San Clemente (21-9): The Tritons got a win over Aliso Niguel on Monday to improve to 5-2 in South Coast League.

6. Beckman (24-9): The Patriots went undefeated in the Pacific Coast League with a win over University on Wednesday. They have won 11 consecutive matches.

7. Santa Margarita (21-12): The Eagles finished second in Trinity League with 6-2 league record that included a victory over Mater Dei.

8. JSerra (21-7): The Lions finished in third place in the Trinity League and qualified for the CIF-SS playoffs with a 3-1 victory Wednesday over Orange Lutheran.

9. Edison (19-15): The Chargers captured the Wave League championship and won 10 of their final 12 regular-season matches. The two losses were to Huntington Beach and Newport Harbor.

10. Los Alamitos (23-14): The Griffins finished third in the Surf League and concluded the regular season by winning 10 of 12 matches. The two losses were to Huntington Beach and Newport Harbor.
