A $30 million gift from longtime supporters Ron and Sandi Simon will help Hoag provide housing support to nurses and other essential employees. The donation will fund about $1.25 million per year in housing stipends, helping eligible caregivers pay for rent or mortgage costs, while Hoag also works to create long-term housing options for staff.
The support comes as Hoag prepares to open the expanded Sun Family Campus in Irvine this year and hire roughly 1,000 additional employees. Hospital leaders said the assistance will help attract and retain staff by making it easier for employees to live near their workplace.
