Notable this week: Los Alamitos moves up from No. 10 last week to No. 6 after an impressive 41-21 win over Serra. The Griffins are 4-0. … Mission Viejo was impressive, too, in a one-sided win over Folsom, 53-14, in a battle of teams ranked in the California Top 10. … Mater Dei had a tough time against Hawaii’s Kahuku and escaped with a 21-18 win. … La Habra continues its climb in the rankings after a 41-14 win over Ayala. … El Modena returns to the rankings after a 21-17 win over Newport Harbor, which was No. 21 last week.

1. Mater Dei 2-0 (75 points)

The Monarchs hung on to beat Hawaii’s Kahuku 21-18. Kahuku went into the game as the No. 2 team in Hawaii according to the HSratings.com state rankings. Justin Lewis rushed for 95 yards for Mater Dei. The Monarchs play at Centennial on Friday.

2. Mission Viejo 3-0 (72)

There are “statement games” and Mission Viejo certainly had one last week. The Diablos crushed Folsom 53-14 as senior quarterback Luke Fahey passed for 323 yards and five touchdowns. Folsom was ranked No. 9 in California by HSratings.com. Mission Viejo was No. 4 in those rankings. The Diablos play Friday at Lincoln, San Diego County’s top-rated team.

3. Santa Margarita 2-1 (69)

Trace Johnson’s two touchdown passes in the first half got the Eagles off to a great start on their way to a 45-13 win over Highland in Palmdale. Grant Mosley and Luke Gazzaniga had touchdown catches, Jaion Smith ran for two touchdowns and Logan Hirou returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown.

4. Orange Lutheran 2-1 (66)

The Lancers lost to Basha in Chandler, Ariz., 30-24. It was the second out-of-state opponent for Orange Lutheran in three weeks, having won in Florida in Week 0. Basha had a 24-0 lead at halftime. Orange Lutheran’s very tough schedule continues Friday against Serra at Orange Coast College.

5. Servite 2-1 (63)

The Friars put their season-opening loss to Centennial even further behind them with a 46-3 road win over Chaminade. Servite quarterback Kale Murphy threw three touchdown passes, two of them to Benjamin Harris.

6. Los Alamitos 4-0 (59)

Lenny Ibarra had five receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown, rushed for 48 yards, was in on nine tackles from his safety position, kicked four extra points and even played a little bit of quarterback in the Griffins’ 41-21 win over Serra. Going into the game, Serra was No. 14 and Los Alamitos was No. 16 in California by HSratings.com’s rankings.

7. San Juan Hills 3-0 (58)

Senior quarterback Timmy Herr threw for 302 yards and five touchdowns in a 42-21 win over Chino Hills. Luke Frith had 184 yards receiving with three touchdowns.

8. Yorba Linda 3-0 (53)

Colin O’Connor threw two touchdown passes and Noah Trujillo returned an interception for a touchdown in a 31-21 win over San Jacinto. Troy Roberts had six receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown for the Mustangs.

9. Tustin 2-1 (50)

The Tillers had a large early lead that they could not retain in a 28-27 loss to Long Beach Poly. Quarterback Ayden Edwards threw two early touchdown passes to Hayden Koo.

Chargers quarterback Sam Thomson connected with Matthew Auau for three touchdowns in a 31-0 win over Lakewood. Edison lost a tough one to Yorba Linda 21-17 the previous week.
