A toddler was struck and killed by an Amazon delivery van Tuesday afternoon in an Irvine apartment complex, officials said.

The Irvine Police Department and the Orange County Fire Authority responded to a call about a collision in the parking lot of the complex on the 300 block of Estancia, near lower Peters Canyon and the 261 toll road, just after 3:30 p.m.

The 23-month-old girl died at the scene, police said. The driver remained to speak with authorities, Irvine Police Department Sgt. Karie Davies said.

The cause of the collision was under investigation, but investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor.

A third-party contractor operates the van, police said.

No further details were immediately available.

Anyone with information on the collision was asked to call Irvine police Detective Christopher Ostrowski at 949-724-7047 or email him at costrowski@cityofirvine.org.
